Red-Eyed Tree Frogs are probably the most photographed frog on the planet. Featuring incredible greens and blues with highlighted sides, these red-eyed beauties are native to Central and South America. 

Note: We have begun to produce a variation in eye color in our group of red eyes since 2016. We call them copper eyes. While we have paired copper eye to copper eye, the mode of inheritance is still unknown and will require further breeding to uncover.  If you are interested in copper-eyed frogs, please inquire via email at geckodaddy@gmail.com

Red-eyed Tree Frogs are arboreal, meaning they live in trees, and are typically found in rainforests and other humid environments. They are active at night and are known to be good climbers, using their sticky toe pads to move around on branches and leaves.

Red-eyed tree frogs are relatively small, with adult males reaching a size of about 3.5 inches in length and females being slightly larger. They are also known for their distinctive call, which is a loud, raspy "quack" that can be heard from a distance.

In the wild, red-eyed tree frogs are preyed upon by a variety of predators, including snakes, birds, and mammals. They are also threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation and other human activities. Despite these challenges, red-eyed tree frogs are not currently considered to be endangered and are still found in many parts of their native range.

While these frogs are regularly imported into the pet trade, we encourage the  purchase of captive bred frogs!

If you are considering getting a red-eyed tree frog as a pet, it is important to do your research and ensure that you are prepared to provide the proper care for these animals. Red-eyed tree frogs are native to tropical rainforests, so they require a humid environment and a diet consisting primarily of insects. Here are some specific care considerations for red-eyed tree frogs:

1. Housing: Red-eyed tree frogs need a spacious enclosure with plenty of climbing branches and plants. A terrarium or a large glass tank with a screened top is a suitable enclosure. The enclosure should be at least 20 gallons in size for one or two frogs, and should be kept at a temperature between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit with a humidity level of 60-80%.

2. Diet: Red-eyed tree frogs primarily eat insects such as crickets. These should be dusted with a calcium supplement  as well as a multi-vitamin to ensure proper nutrition. 

3. Water: Red-eyed tree frogs need a source of clean, fresh de-chlorinated water at all times. A water dish or a misting system can be used to provide moisture, and the enclosure should be misted daily to maintain the proper humidity level.

4. Handling: Red-eyed tree frogs should not be handled frequently as it can cause stress. When handling is necessary, it should be done gently and with clean hands to avoid transmitting diseases.

1. Lighting: Red-eyed tree frogs may benefit from access to UVB lighting to synthesize vitamin D3, which is necessary for proper calcium metabolism. A UVB bulb can be used in the enclosure for 12-14 hours per day.

Purchasing an Animal From GeckoDaddy

When you decide which animal(s) you would like to purchase from Gecko Daddy, use the online shopping system to complete your purchase with credit card or PayPal or e-mail us at geckodaddy@gmail.com. Just list the id’s of the animal(s) you would like to purchase and we will reply with a detailed receipt. We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, cashier’s checks and USPS money orders. We will make arrangements for shipping after purchase checks have cleared.

Shipping a Live Animal

A shipping fee of $35.00 (1-6 animals) will be added to your purchase. Geckos and frogs are shipped using UPS Next Day Air. Shipping days are M, T, or W as weather permits. We will take every precaution to make sure our animals arrive happy and healthy. Therefore, we will not ship animals in conditions that are not suitable for safe arrival (below 40 or above 94 degrees). We will hold animals as long as is necessary until weather permits safe shipping. Someone must be able to receive and sign for the animal on the specified arrival date or we will not ship.

In order to have a full shipping guarantee, you must be available to receive the package at the time of the delivery. If the package is left at your door we will not guarantee live arrival. If you accept the package at the time of delivery and the animal is not alive, we require that you call or email us within 1 hour. We may request that the gecko is shipped back to us before a refund is given. The buyer will pay shipping on replacement reptiles.

As of 2022, it is our preference to ship to a UPS Store or Customer Center for pick up. We will identify the closest options for you based upon your address and confirm your availability to do so. This reduces risk to the animals as they spend less time in delivery vehicles and there is less chance of a missed delivery. Some locations may charge a $5 pick up fee when you arrive to pick up your package.

We cannot guarantee the personality either, although many are handled as they are cared for. Lastly, we cannot guarantee fertility or lifespan.
