• Common Names: Tarsier’s Leaf Frog, Brownbelly Leaf Frog

• Distribution: Amazon Basin (Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador)

• Lifestyle: Arboreal, nocturnal, tree-dwelling

• Adult Size: 2.5–3.5 inches (6–9 cm)

• Lifespan: 8–10+ years in captivity with proper care

🏡 Enclosure Setup

• Size:

  • Single adult: 18x18x24" (Exo Terra style) minimum

  • Pair/small group: 24x18x24" or larger

• Type: Vertical/arboreal enclosure with plenty of climbing space.

• Substrate: we use paper towel.

• Decor: Live or artificial plants, cork bark, sturdy branches, and vines for climbing.

• Day Temperature: 75–82°F (24–28°C)

• Night Drop: 70–74°F (21–23°C)

• Humidity: 60–80% with daily misting; allow slight dry-out between mistings to prevent bacterial issues.

• Ventilation: Important — avoid stagnant air. Use partial screen top.

☀️ Lighting

• Photoperiod: 12 hours light / 12 hours dark

• UVB: Low-level UVB (2.0–5.0) recommended for calcium metabolism and overall health. Provide shaded areas so frogs can regulate exposure.

🍽️ Feeding

• Diet: Crickets (staple)

• Feeder Size: No larger than the frog’s head width.

• Supplementation:

  • Calcium w/ D3: 2–3x per week

  • Multivitamin: 1x per week

💧 Water

• Water Source: Always provide a shallow dish of dechlorinated or spring water.

• Mist enclosure daily to maintain humidity and hydration, but must dry out daily.

• Do not use distilled water.

🐸 Behavior & Handling

• Nocturnal: Active and feeding at night, rests on leaves by day.

• Arboreal climbers with strong grasping feet.

• Handling: Avoid whenever possible — their skin is delicate and absorbs oils/chemicals. If necessary, use clean, wet hands or gloves.

🧪 Health & Common Issues

• Stress: Caused by poor humidity or lack of cover. Provide dense foliage.

• Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD): Prevent with UVB and calcium supplements.

• Skin Issues: Prevent by keeping humidity balanced (not constantly wet).

• Parasites: Rare in captive-bred but common in wild-caught — another reason captive bred is preferred.

📌 Note for Keepers: Phyllomedusa tarsius is a rare and fascinating species. Captive-bred animals are much healthier, more sustainable, and easier to acclimate than wild-caught imports.

Purchasing an Animal From GeckoDaddy

When you decide which animal(s) you would like to purchase from Gecko Daddy, use the online shopping system to complete your purchase with credit card or PayPal or e-mail us at geckodaddy@gmail.com. Just list the id’s of the animal(s) you would like to purchase and we will reply with a detailed receipt. We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, cashier’s checks and USPS money orders. We will make arrangements for shipping after purchase checks have cleared.

Shipping a Live Animal

A shipping fee of $50.00 (1-6 animals) will be added to your purchase. Geckos and frogs are shipped using UPS Next Day Air. Shipping days are M, T, or W as weather permits. We will take every precaution to make sure our animals arrive happy and healthy. Therefore, we will not ship animals in conditions that are not suitable for safe arrival (below 40 or above 94 degrees). We will hold animals as long as is necessary until weather permits safe shipping. Someone must be able to receive and sign for the animal on the specified arrival date or we will not ship.

In order to have a full shipping guarantee, you must be available to receive the package at the time of the delivery. If the package is left at your door we will not guarantee live arrival. If you accept the package at the time of delivery and the animal is not alive, we require that you call or email us within 1 hour. We may request that the gecko is shipped back to us before a refund is given. The buyer will pay shipping on replacement reptiles.

As of 2022, it is our preference to ship to a UPS Store or Customer Center for pick up. We will identify the closest options for you based upon your address and confirm your availability to do so. This reduces risk to the animals as they spend less time in delivery vehicles and there is less chance of a missed delivery. Some locations may charge a $5 pick up fee when you arrive to pick up your package.

Here’s what we cannot guarantee: many animals change in appearance as they mature, therefore we cannot guarantee the final appearance of the animal you purchase (color or pattern). We cannot guarantee the personality either, although many are handled as they are cared for. Lastly, we cannot guarantee fertility or lifespan.
