Please contact us for availability and price. Young Adult USA Captive Bred Giant Waxy Monkey Frog (Phyllomedusa Bicolor)
Please contact us for availability and price.
Young adult from our 2022 spawn.
It looks like we will have a limited supply of young adult giant monkey frogs ready for new homes sometime early September. We are really waiting for summer temps to cool a little more.
Asking $300 for singles and $250 for multiples. These are 3-4 inch frogs that came out of the water last September. Not visually sexable (males haven't shown nuptial pads yet) but the larger frogs are presumably female.
Let me know if you are interested.
Thanks,
Chris
We did it again! In 2019 we produced the first ever captive bred Peruvian locale Phyllomedusa Bicolor. This was a major accomplishment for us and marked the first in a series of goals we had concerning the future of this species in the pet trade. In 2022 we accomplished another HUGE milestone... we produced the first ever F3 (2nd gen. CBB) Bicolor in history. We are thrilled to be a part of the story of the Giant Waxy Monkey Frog and its success in captivity! You can read about our experience here.
Videos of our large enclosure and other informative videos can be found on our YouTube page here.
General info:
While we work with the Peruvian Bicolors, marked by a heavily reticulated side pattern, this species of frog is found in the tropical rainforests of South America, including Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela.
These frogs are relatively large, with adults reaching up to about 6 inches in length. They are generally green or brown in color, with distinctive white or yellow markings on their face, legs, and underside.
Phyllomedusa bicolor is an arboreal species, meaning that it lives in the trees. It is active at night and is known for its distinctive call, which is a series of loud, guttural "wok" sounds.
Like other members of the Phyllomedusa genus, P. bicolor has a waxy substance on its skin, which is thought to help protect it from predators and parasites.
While Phyllomedusa bicolor is not commonly kept as a pet, it can be maintained in captivity with the proper care and environment. If you are interested in keeping one of these frogs as a pet, it is important to research their care requirements and ensure that you can provide the proper diet and housing for them.
Care:
Here are some general guidelines for caring for a giant waxy monkey frog:
-
Housing: Adult giant waxy monkey frogs should be kept in a spacious enclosure that allows them to climb and move around. The larger the enclosure the better when it comes to housing an adult giant monkey frog. The enclosure should be well-ventilated, and the substrate should be kept moist. We use paper towel in non-planted set ups. It's a good idea to provide plenty of resting places such as PVC pipes or other structures for frogs to perch on during the day. Young froglets can be kept in smaller enclosures until they reach a suitable size for a larger enclosure. If keeping froglets in a larger enclosure, a feeding bin or tank may be necessary to ensure froglets are feeding.
-
Diet: Giant waxy monkey frogs are carnivorous and should be fed a varied diet of insects, such as crickets and roaches. It's a good idea to dust their food with a calcium supplement and multi-vitamin to ensure that they are getting the nutrients they need.
-
Temperature and humidity: Giant waxy monkey frogs should be kept in a warm, humid environment, with a temperature range of 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit for young frogs and up to 90 degrees for adults. They can have a humidity level of 60-80% for young frogs and 50% to 70% for adults.
-
Water: Giant waxy monkey frogs should have a source of clean, chlorine-free water available at all times. It's a good idea to use a shallow water dish or mist the enclosure regularly to provide a source of water for the frog to soak in.
-
Handling: Giant waxy monkey frogs should not be handled frequently, as this can stress them out. When handling is necessary, it should be done gently and with clean hands.
-
We recommend handling all frogs with gloves on to reduce any risk to the animal.
If you are considering keeping a giant waxy monkey frog as a pet, it is important to research their care requirements in detail and ensure that you can provide the proper environment and diet for them. They are not suitable for beginner frog owners and require specialized care.
At Gecko Daddy we have a strong belief that as pet owners, we have the responsibility to care for our pets.
Pet Owner’s Oath
When I purchase an animal, I become responsible for its care. I am responsible to learn how to properly provide for its needs: its habitat, its diet, and its health. My animal wants to live and I want it to live. I will do all in my power to ensure that my animal has a long, healthy, and happy life. I am ready for this responsibility.

Shipping a Live Animal
A shipping fee of $35.00 (1-6 animals) will be added to your purchase. Geckos and frogs are shipped using UPS Next Day Air. Shipping days are M, T, or W as weather permits. We will take every precaution to make sure our animals arrive happy and healthy. Therefore, we will not ship animals in conditions that are not suitable for safe arrival (below 40 or above 94 degrees). We will hold animals as long as is necessary until weather permits safe shipping. Someone must be able to receive and sign for the animal on the specified arrival date or we will not ship.
In order to have a full shipping guarantee, you must be available to receive the package at the time of the delivery. If the package is left at your door we will not guarantee live arrival. If you accept the package at the time of delivery and the animal is not alive, we require that you call or email us within 1 hour. We may request that the gecko is shipped back to us before a refund is given. The buyer will pay shipping on replacement reptiles.
As of 2022, it is our preference to ship to a UPS Store or Customer Center for pick up. We will identify the closest options for you based upon your address and confirm your availability to do so. This reduces risk to the animals as they spend less time in delivery vehicles and there is less chance of a missed delivery. Some locations may charge a $5 pick up fee when you arrive to pick up your package.
Please see our International Shipping page for information about shipping our geckos internationally.
